Radio Show Part #3: What Is The Standard Format For A Radio Show?

When you’re ready to start producing your own radio show, it’s important to understand how much time you have to interview your guest, allow for commercial/sponsor plugs, intro and outro statements, etc. Referencing the graph below, imagine putting together a 45 minute radio show, use this proposed format below to help organize your transitional music, content, commercial ads, etc.

(1) Intro/Music + Standard Show Introduction (Up To 30 Seconds)

Need Royalty-Free Intro/Outro Music? All you need is some smile-sounding, upbeat music to introduce your show. Once you find it, use that again and again to introduce your show. Listeners will grow to expect it!

“Hello and welcome to the debut podcast for (YOUR RADIO SHOW NAME) …”
“Hi, and welcome to (YOUR RADIO SHOW NAME) …”
“My name is (YOUR NAME / TITLE) …”
“Be sure to check us out online at our web site at (YOUR Web site) …”
“And, if you like what you hear, let us know. Contact us at our (web site) and/or (telephone number) with your questions.”

(2) Content / Guest Q&A (10-15 Minutes)

“Today, we’re talking about ________ (topic). With me (on the phone/in the studio/etc.), is _______ (expert’s name). He/she is _______ (go into their bio).”

(3) Commercial / Ad Sponsor Announcement (1-3 Minutes)

After you’ve entertained/educated your listeners for 5-10 few minutes, why not plug one of your products, services, seminars, an affiliate/sponsor/advertisers product/offer. Length of time: 30 seconds.

(4) Content / Guest Q&A (10-15 Minutes)

“Welcome back everyone. Today we’re talking about _____ (topic) with ______ (expert).” What you want to do is to welcome people back from the commercial break, and pick up from where you left off.

(5) Commercial / Ad Sponsor Announcement (1-3 Minutes)
