What are ZIP files?

ZIP files are individual files that contain one or more files (i.e., document files, audio files, web files, software files, etc.) that have been combined into one file by compressing them together. ZIP files generally have a file extensions of ".zip" or ".ZIP" ...

	What are ZIP files good for?

There are many uses for ZIP files:

	Multiple File Consolidation ... ZIP files help reduce "many files" into one ".zip" file.
	Organization & Efficiency ... ZIP files make it easier to eMail, transfer and/or distribute multiple file, because they're "zipped" (or combined) into one single ".zip" file.
	Size Reduction ... ZIP files also help decrease the size of the file or files you "ZIP" into one ".zip" file. For example, you might zip one file that is 4 MB in size; after you "zip it," the final ".zip" final might be 3.5 MB in size or or smaller!

	What kinds of files can you ZIP together?

You can zip just about any file, of any type and of any size! You can zip Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint slide presentations, images, audio files, video files, website files, template files, software programs, etc.

	What software do you need to ZIP files together?

In order to create a ".zip" file, you need file zipping software. Now, be aware, there are free programs that can zip and unzip files for you and there are programs that cost you a little bit of money. One of my favorite (free) software programs that I use to zip and unzip files is called 7-ZIP. You can use 7-Zip for free on any computer, including computers in commercial organizations. Nice!

	What happens when you ZIP files?

When you "zip files" (i.e., compress them) into one ZIP file, using 7-Zip, in this example, you basically take one file (or more files) and combine them into one ".zip" file like this:
